Power Consumption

Websites: Prime95; Geeks3D FurMark

For the power consumption tests, we measure via a power meter at the wall. We use Prime95's small FFTs test to put the CPU under 100 percent load while also running an instance of FurMark to place maximum stress on the GPU. While this is not reflective or a realistic workload, we are seeking to establish peak power consumption as well as verify system stability.

This stress testing is also used to identify a system's cooling potential, noise output, and frequency/throttling characteristics, which are discussed in the Performance Analysis section.

We use Prime95 26.6 (no AVX instructions) and FurMark 1.20.5. Idle power results are taken with the PC idling at the Windows desktop.
